Most tropical woodland vivariums will be arboreal, which offers great opportunities for decor. Plants can be fixed to wooden branches or trained up them.   Not only will this provide cover, but it will also be beneficial for breeding for herps such as the poison arrow frog which use a cup like rosette at the center of a plant to deposit their tadpoles.  Plastic replica of these plants can be provided if the occupants destroy the live plants growing in their enclosure. Bark Chips are a good natural substrate.

The temperature should be maintained at a relatively high level of about 90°F (32°C) during the day 75°F (24°C) at night, depending on the occupants, and should be kept up throughout the year, since there are no distinctive seasons in the tropics.

Regular spraying inside the vivarium to maintain the humidity is important for the well being of the occupants, but good ventilation is equally significant, as without it the interior will turn moldy.
