In the herp world this setup will mostly only be used for amphibians such as the axolotl and tadpoles etc. Axolotls require no extra heat as they thrive at room temperature, however other aquatic amphibians such as the African clawed frog require warm water, heated to around 81°F (27°F). in this case. Aquarium gravel should be used as a substrate and an under gravel filter should be used to keep the water clean. The water should not be filled to the top. Lighting in the aquarium hood will illuminate the tank occupants beneath, floating plants can be provided for shelter. Cleanliness is most important and the water should be well oxygenated, so an air pump system should be used. Also a dechlorinator or water conditioner can prove beneficial. |
