Terrestrial Arboreal Semi Temperate Woodland Tropical Woodland Tropical Aquatic Semi aquatic Savannah Heating Lighting

Subdued lighting is recommended for the temperate woodland vivaria with no searing heat lamp. Daytime temperatures  of 68-75°F (20-24°C) falling to 50°F (10°C) at night, depending on species, should be provided.  Without a heat lamp temperatures can be kept up by a low wattage heat mat.  The vivarium should be placed away from any radiators as they will lower the relative humidity, which will be counter productive.

A layer of gravel, with bark or wood chips on top, will create a natural substrate. A relatively large dish of water, which can be set directly into the gravel should be provided.  Sphagnum moss, which is sold by specialist reptile dealers can be included, preferably close to the water, and should be sprayed lightly but regularly to keep it from drying out. This will create a damp area in the vivarium.

The temperature should be allowed to fall off in winter, this will trigger off the natural instincts in the vivarium occupants and should encourage breeding during the spring and early summer periods when temperatures should increase.
