Panther Chameleon

Family:  Chamaeleonidae

Species:  Chamaeleo pardalis

Natural Distribution:  Madagascar

Length:   12in (30cm)

Description

The Panther Chameleon has specially adapted feet, allowing them to walk along thin branches.  They have a sticky tip on the end of their tongue which allows it to capture flies and other tiny creatures so quickly that the human eye can't register it.

Panther Chameleons are not easy to keep as pets and require specialist care.

Females have a shorter snout than the males and turn a  salmon orange colour when they are ready to mate.
