Toad Headed Agamids

Species:  Phrynocephalus helioscopus and P. mystaceus

Natural Distribution:   Central Asia to Mongolia/Northern Iran

Length:  P. helioscopus - 3in (8cm) P. mystaceus - 10in (25cm)    

Description

Both these species of Toad Headed Agamids should be kept in pairs or trio's but never mixed because of the difference in size.  They have a short, broad head a thin short tail. Males have a wider tail base and swellings underneath

Vivarium Setup

Size:  36x12x12in (90x30x30cm)  

Design:  Terrestrial                         Type:  Desert   

Substrate:  Dust Free 3-4 in (8-10cm) deep   

Temperature:  30-35°c (86-95° f ) at cool end, 40°c (104°f) at hot spot; 15°c (60°f) at night.  

Photoperiod: 12 hours

Light:  High percentage full-spectrum (UVB) light and a basking lamp.

Winter Cooling:  9° (48°f) 12 weeks Photoperiod: normal daylight hour
